Reconstructive Porcelain Veneers - Santa MonicaCosmetic face lift surgery has become a popular procedure in California for regaining one's youthful appearance and also for creating a cosmetic result that people yearn for. (More Case History Examples)
Some patients inknowingly undergo a facelift experience, without Plastic Surgery, through makeover dentistry. As you will read below, our young patient had a collapsed smile. Due to certain bite and occlusion issues our patient had difficulty smiling broadly and didn't like the appearance and shape of his teeth. Face Lift AnatomyThe adjacent photo is the Cosmetic After Photo... that shows off exactly what the patient was looking for. Great looking teeth, a harmonious relationship between all of his teeth that produces the right balance and a near perfect smile line (curvature of lower edge of upper teeth follows the contour of the lower lip). Many people probably assume that facelifts are usually reserved for persons above the age of say, 30 or 40 years of age. Not so if you have a history of bruxism (teeth grinding) or even minor orthodontic issues that are acquired early or through heredity.
As with our young man, as can be seen in this adjacent Before photo... there are some bite and alignment problems. In other more severe cases, a collapsed smile can actually make a person appear older than his or her stated age.Notice how the upper teeth do not mesh properly with the lower teeth and come in contact with the lower gum tissue. This represents a disturbance in the normal occlusal relationships we are all supposed to have. This condition of malocclusion if left untreated, can lead to more extreme problems include tmj and tmd joint damage, increased collapse of the vertical dimension and possibly damage to biting surfaces and individual tooth structures later in life.
These two after photos represent the completion of the restorative and reconstructive makeover procedures. The observable changes in occlusion and bite are quite evident.... and were achieved without traditional orthodontic adjustments. The teeth are natural in appearance, natural feeling, are in harmony with one another and have achieved a perfect balance.
Orthodontically our patient has ideal dental function and a now normal bite - occlusion relationship. This restoration of normal bite has resulted in a lengthening of the vertical dimension and is manifested in a larger, broader smile.Cosmetic Face Lift Dentistry
Face Lift DynamicsNormal wear and tear on teeth usually cause shifts in bite and occlusion... and if not monitored can lead to a collapsed or sunken mouth, shifts in the jaw line and smaller thinner lips. In the before photo the patient's mouth and smile is beginning to collapse due to bite problems and a history of wear and tear on certain biting surfaces.Dr. Muslin's treatment plan included "raising" the bite that would have the net effect of restoring normal bite and occlusion and also creating a cosmetic dental facelift.
Custom fabricated crowns and reconstructive veneers made with premium feldspathic porcelain were used to recreate what is supposed to be the normal biting surfaces and height of for our patient's bite.To further assure accuracy, Dr. Muslin used CATScan technology to monitor certain tmj issues during treatment. By closely comparing these two photos, it can be noticed that the After photo depicts a relaxed smile (in the before photo the patient is "forcing" a large smile). Reconstructive Dental Surgery Eliminates Plastic SurgeryThis large closeup photo points out the areas of collapse that led to the development of the treatment plan chosen by our patient that produced the cosmetic result he was seeking.![]() Contact Dr. Muslin at (310) 829-6796 to learn more about face lifts through dentistry and how they can create cosmetic outcomes that are not only truly dazzling but can offer opportunities for eliminating the need for costly plastic surgery.
