Porcelain Crown Technologies Santa Monica
Porcelain Crowns have undergone advancements that have impacted Cosmetic Dentistry and restorative dentistry in general. Up until recently the popular materials used for creating porcelain crowns consisted of porcelain material fused to metal crowns.
The Dental Sciences, researchers and development laboratories have created however materials that now enable dentists like Dr. Muslin to impose a "higher standard" of cosmetic and restorative dentistry. What was once considered acceptable and perhaps a standard practice.. is no longer suitable for many patients.
As seen in this photo, the patient felt she had crowns that did not look natural, felt bulky and due to receeding gum tissue, started developing unsightly black lines where the porcelain material was fused to the metal substrate. She also had difficulties with food getting trapped in the spaces between her crowns (see photos below for detail).
The overall "cosmetic picture" was further compromised with crooked, yellowed and worn down teeth. The wear and tear on her natural teeth was significant, causing erosion and the exposure of the brownish looking root dentin.
The patient was very unhappy with her appearance. Even her husband commented that every time she smiled, the various cosmetic stains could be seen along with food that was becoming routinely trapped between her teeth.
Black Line Phenomenon - Old Dental Technology Replaced
Dr. Muslin performed a thorough examination and has able to determine that newer advanced porcelain crowns (solid porcelain) could be used to eliminate the "black line" phenomenon that occurs with the older style porcelain crowns. Current crown technology also offers more "translucency qualities" which makes the tooth appear to be "real."
Solid porcelain crowns are available from different manufacturers and offer variety of "choice." Procera, Empress and Cerac Crowns - for example. Dr. Muslin would remove the old crowns, eliminate the decay, stop the trapping of food and cover the exposed and abraded roots.
Dr. Muslin also assured the patient that with additional cosmetic procedures he could make her lower teeth appear perfectly straight, with perfect color and create a customized, very feminine smile .... all in only two weeks.
Gum Tissue Treatment - Regrowth
The patient and Dr. Muslin were concerned about her receding gum line. Procedures were implemented that spurred the re-growth of her gum tissue. Exposed roots were no longer exposed. As the growth of her gum tissue progressed, the patient acquired a natural and balanced gum line, as can be seen in the adjacent photo.
