Reconstructive FaceLifts Santa MonicaInstant Braces - Adult Ceramic Smile Straightening DentistryCosmetic dental perfection is no longer just a goal for the young and restless. Attractiveness and appeal exists for just about everyone. But perhaps for different reasons.
People in professional occupations have a desire to look and feel their best. And again, the reasons for wanting the best looking smile possible differ from young adults... just starting out or midway through their careers... compared to adults who are successful and firmly established in their professions.Meet Ken. A successful professional person who looks as great as he feels. Physically in tip top shape. At the time he presented in our office ... he insisted something was missing. Ken felt that although he had an attractive smile, it just wasn't as good as he wanted it to be. His goal was simple. He wanted all his teeth to have a natural and orthodontically correct balance, feel and enable him to show off as many teeth as he wanted, without reservation. Most of all... he wanted this degree of orthodontically straight teeth without the use of traditional metal braces. Invisible orthodontics (Invislign or OrthoClear) were also out of the question due to the time frame required for treatment. Natural appearance was critical for our patient. He honestly felt that having ceramic products (crowns and veneers) had to be of the highest quality and provide the ability for the ceramist to build in all of the color and shading gradients that occur with natural teeth. Ken knew this was possible with only certain types of porcelain. He didn't want a veneer or crown that looked like a veneer or crown.
As shown in the second preop before photo, Ken's teeth were in pretty good shape. Looking closely it can be seen that some tooth structures had begun to show normal wear and tear, a normal phenomenon. The lower jaw (mandible) had some minor tooth rotations that had also begun to affect his bite and occlusion. In addition, some of his older dentistry treatments had also begun to show signs of wear (normal) that, if untreated, would further complicate possible tm joint problems in the future. CatScans - Complex Motion Tomography StudiesTo properly and accurately treat impending occlusal relationship problems, Dr. Muslin included the use of high tech CatScans and tomography analysis to obtain the most accurate technical data needed to assure that all facets of joint movement and positioning were normalized. The technical information generated from these studies are used both by Dr. Muslin and his ceramist for creating new porcelain components that are geometrically correct for each and every tooth (restoration). This degree of attention to detail would provide the best possible functional result for Ken that will be durable and long lasting.
Dr. Muslin discussed a number of treatment plans with the patient.. each with varying degrees of cosmetic and functional result. The patient decided to have both upper and lower (maxillary and mandibular) arches treated. A total of 2 visits for the upper jaw and 2 more for the lower jaw. A total of 24 ceramic feldspathic porcelain based restorations were provided, including crowns and veneers.
Diagnostic Wax Up ModelsAs can be seen in the 3rd picture in the treatment series, the patient obtained the near perfection he wanted. Symmetry and balance was achieved across both arches. The porcelain product chosen by the patient provided that shading and color characterstics that are surpassed only by Mother Nature. The use of waxup models enabled Ken to provide the needed feedback for Dr. Muslin and the ceramist to create exactly what he was looking for... natural appearing teeth. Ken was quite pleased with the outcome. His primary goals of great looks and great feel were accomplished. He felt comfortable too in knowing that there were be "no suprises" later, in terms of his bite or occlusal relation beginning to shift. The complex motion tomography studies assured him of having a normal bite for a long long time. Have questions about restorations and how they can affect your appearance and possible tmj issues?
